    ОписаниеLetter by Sir Marc Isambard Brunel, to his son-in-law, Benjamin Hawes, dated 9 October, 1837, describing the author's worries concerning men injured and ill during construction of the Thames Tunnel. Mentions that one of his assistants, Mason 'is in a very dangerous state'. Other men have had to go to hospital, and may be unable to work again following accidents/illness. Expresses worries about someone called 'Page' who 'is likely to sink suddenly...as Colhurst did.' However, Colhurst 'has enjoyed excellent health since he has been with Isambard.' Finishes by sending his love to his grandchildren and daughter Sophia. Incomplete red seal on verso with three postmarks. Rip on verso in bottom left-hand corner. Has been folded lengthways and also into thirds along the width. Transcription available
