    ОписаниеA letter from leading abolitionist and campaigner, Thomas Clarkson, Playford, to Mr Hawes. He asks Mr Hawes to support an upcoming bill protecting seamen from their captains, theft from ''Crimps'' who steal their money at their lodgings, and other barbarous practices. He wants the legal rights of seamen to be enshrined in law and bemoans the lack of progress under this current government. Dated 18 July 1845 Contained within an album of letters addressed to members of the Brunel and Hawes families, page 7. The letters are contained in a brown hardback album belonging to Lady Sophia Macnamara Hawes.
