НазваниеLetter from Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to Benjamin Hawes regarding the Thames Tunnel and other work
Создатель Marc Isambard Brunel (author)
ОписаниеLetter from Sir Marc Isambard Brunel to his son-in-law Benjamin Hawes, undated but possibly from the early 1840s, given that it seems to discuss the completed Thames Tunnel. He discusses his achievements and a planned 'exposition' of them, referring to the Thames Tunnel, Block machinery, the 'splendid Mills' including an Ordnance sawmill at 'Wollwich', and the Chatham works. He comments that 'I may draw a very comprehensive Exposition at Chatham, they have attempted to outdo me, but they have made a ridiculous specimen of their combined schemes.' He requests that Hawes pass an enclosed letter on to Isambard if the latter is in town. Marc says that he himself is prepared to go into town 'if required to put all the Records in proper condition.'
Folded sheet. Signed by M.I. Brunel. 'Sir Isambard Brunel' written on reverse, possibly in a different hand.
