ОписаниеA single page of an incomplete document, possibly a letter or diary entry, in the hand of Sir Marc Isambard Brunel. It discusses matters relating to the Thames Tunnel, and may date from circa 1841. It begins 'Mr. Page may account for five pounds that have been charged against me for an excess in a Week's expenditure - beyond the sum prescribed by the Board'. Marc seems to suggest, however, that there would have been 'bad consequences' had he simply stopped the work instead of spending the extra money on it. He comments on having been charged £70 in the past 'for having increased the strength of the Roofs', which he again says was a necessary precaution.
Marc goes on to say that it 'is proposed now to appoint me as the Engineer, an office presumed to be a more official one!' There is a lot of work still to do, such as new stairs for each side of the river, and 'the complete Drawings for Carriage Ways.'
