НазваниеPage containing a caligraph of the first stanza of the hymn 'O Sinner, Lift the eye of faith'
Создатель Edward West
ОписаниеThis page contains a caligraphed stanza of a hymn as well as hand drawn decoration around the text itself.
The hymn is 'O Sinner, Lift the Eye of Faith' a translation of the latin hymn 'Atolle paula lumina', the author of which is unknown. The hymn was first translated into English by J.M Neale.
The hymn was part of a compilation in 1861 named Hymns Ancient and Modern, and this version has been replicated by the author.
The caligraphy is surrounded by decorative flourishing of leaves and stars.
On the left hand side of the page is the phrase 'This have I done for thee, what will thou do for me?' written inside a drawing of a scroll.
This is a phrase found at the bottom of the painting Ecce Homo by Domenico Fetti. The phrase was an inspiration for the hymn 'I give my life for Thee' by Frances Havergal. The hymn was originally printed on a leaflet in 1859, and then a book of hymns in 1860.
The author has included a location and date at the bottom of the page.
