Original in SSGB collection: 1997.017. 'Letter from Gibbs, Bright & Co. to W.M.Bennett, Secretary of the Great Western Steam Ship Company. Dated 17th February 1846. Postmarked Liverpool 17th February 1846.The letter begins by discussing the letting of cabins for passengers on the ss Great Western for voyages on the 11th April and 30th May. It also asks for the 'classification of 25 and 30 Guinea berths per Great Britain, also the names of any further passengers to whom you may have let berths of Great Western'. The letter goes onto state that 'We were surprised to learn from Captain Hosken this afternoon that it was intended to put the Great Britain into the Graving dock on the 28 instant, whereas referring to your letter you will find you dersired us to make arrangements to dock her on 28 March and in our reply we informed you that we had made the necessary arrangements for the Great Britain to enter the Graving dock on 28 Proviso. Under the circumstances we shall feel obliged by your sending us instructions how we are to act, by return of post'.'
