Passenger diary written by passenger on the Great Britain to New York Voyage 8 1852, thought to be John Chalk Barrett
"Bound, hard backed journal. 94 numbered pages, with hand written account of voyage and travels around America and Canada, as well as a dedication to Mary Barrett, wife of author, at the front. Inside page has two single page documents stuck onto book - 'The Great Britain Steamship', advert for voyage. 'Great Britain Steamship, Rules and Regulations for the fore saloon passengers'. Back page has three small cards stuck onto page - 'Table of distances by Mississippi River, from St Louis to St Peters'; 'Table of distances, from Buffalo to Chicago, Via Michigan Central Rail Road'; 'Buffalo & Albany R. Road. Distance from Buffalo to [list of locations]'. Between page 58 and 59 a light blue printed document has been included in the book - 'Statistics of Lowell Manufactures. January, 1852. Compiled from authentic sources'. No page 78 - page 76 is a different type of paper, page appears to have been removed and a new one included.
The page opposite page 1 includes statistics on voyage - including how far travelled each day, as well as longitude and lattitude. The voyage took 14 days."
