Ketupat Knot Designs
-
The Indonesian word "ketupat" denotes a little basket that is woven from coconut- or palm leaves. It is used to prepare and serve rice during periods of festivity. In this paper we present the structural analysis of 16 Ketupat Knots, which are largely due to field work by Ir. Farnis Boneka during March 1993 on Salibabu in the Talaud Islands. In the language spoken on the archipelago the ketupat is named "ampirrisa". Regionally more than 20 Ketupat Knot structures are known to be in use.
