DescriptionA print of the famous black and white photograph of Isambard Kingdom Brunel standing in front of the launch chains of the Great Eastern. The print dates from 1926 and was produced by the photographic department of the GWR Engineer's Office in Paddington. The original photograph was taken by Robert Howlett in 1857. It has an accompanying envelope in which it was originally stored (now kept in object history file).
There are inscriptions on the reverse of the photograph, including text stamped in purple which gives information on the production of the print.
Part of a collection of documents relating to Roland Brotherhood, a contractor who worked for Isambard Kingdom Brunel on the Great Western Railway, The SS Great Eastern and other projects.
