DescriptionRiveted iron funnel of the SS Great Eastern. On 9 September 1859 during the maiden voyage of the Great Eastern the ship's forward funnel exploded. The Great Eastern put into Weymouth and the remains of the funnel were sold to Weymouth Waterworks Company which used it as a water strainer until the funnel was donated to the SS Great Britain Trust.
